About Us

Little Cypress Natives Nursery is located five miles north of Florence, Alabama, on the banks of beautiful Little Cypress Creek and on land once owned as part of the famous Forks of Cypress Plantation.

When we began landscaping around our home, many of the traditional plants we were trying to use did not respond well in our woodland environment. Noticing the types of plants that were thriving on their own in the wooded area signaled to us that natives were the kinds of plants we needed to add to our landscape. But we could not find them locally. We commented that “someone” should open a native plant nursery. That “someone” turned out to be us! LCN officially opened in January 1995, as a nursery devoted primarily to plants native to zones 6, 7, and 8, and companion plants that also grow well in these zones.

The demand for native plants and improved native selections has increased steadily in recent years.

The demand for native plants and improved native selections has increased steadily in recent years. More and more people are increasingly interested in natives to encourage wildlife and butterfly habitat. Landscaping with native plants has even attracted an increasing number of federal, state, and local government agencies.

Generally, native plants require less care and maintenance

Homeowners and landowners are encouraged to use more native plants. Native plants adapt to local site conditions and climates and have greater resistance to drought. Generally, native plants require less care and maintenance once they are established in a happy environment. We are dedicated to providing the best selections of native trees, shrubs, and perennials.
